Laminate Flooring Care & Maintenance

Laminates are developed specifically to be easy to care for and maintain.

1. Scratch Prevention: Your laminate floor is tough and resilient; however care must be taken to avoid scratches in certain situations.
2. Pet Care: Laminates naturally resists most pet scratching. However, when pet nails are not trimmed, sand, small rocks and other scratchers get stuck in their claws. Keep your pet's claws trimmed to an average length.
3. Friendly Furniture: To make your furniture extra friendly towards your floor, use felt or other soft feet under your furniture legs.
4. Lift, don't drag: When moving heavy objects and furniture, lift it instead of dragging, pushing or pulling it across your floor.
5. Use mats: Exterior doors should have mats in order to collect dirt and gravel.
6. Clean often: Sand and gritty substances are the most scratch prone.

There are several strategies that can help you maintain your floor.

1. Keep dirt away: Regular vacuuming and/or sweeping are the number one way to keep your floor dirt free and like-new!
2. Occasional Mopping: To get those few things that vacuuming or sweeping may not get every single time, or to remove stains, you may mop your floor on occasion.
3. Spot Removal: To care for spots, the number one thing is don't use abrasive cleaners or scratch pads! Use a special laminate cleaning solution.
4. Plank Replacement: Down the road, when the occasion for serious repair presents itself, do not panic. Laminate flooring allows for affordable and convenient replacement of entire floor planks or tiles!
