Glass, Porcelain and Ceramic Tile Flooring Product Information
Here is a quick guide to some of the types of tile you'll find at Nonn's Design Showplace in Wisconsin.
Ceramic Tile Flooring:
1. Are fired to high temperatures to ensure their durability.
2. Easy to clean and are stain resistant.
3. Easy maintenance. Requires no waxing or polishing.
Natural Stone Tile:
1. Reflect the natural beauty of stone.
2. Patterns are non-repeating.
3. Are available in sandblasted or a honed surface.
Porcelain Tile:
1. Are tiles with a water absorption rate of less than 0.5 percent that are used to cover floors and walls.
2. They can be either glazed or unglazed.
3. The hardness of the tile is rated from zero to five according to the Porcelain Enamel Institute scale. This rating, called the PEI rating, determines the tiles suitability for various surfaces.
Glazed Tile:
Is coated with a special ceramic coating that is applied under tremendous heat. This glaze provides consistent color. It also protects the tile from scratches, stains, sun, fire and makes it easy to clean.
Unglazed Tile:
Is a celebration of more natural styles. The color exists throughout the tile resulting in a deep color tile that will not show the wear and tear of heavy traffic.
